Should Topix leave Cyber Bullying and Defamation as Free Speech?
Topix unmoderated anonymous forums are used by people to harass, cyberbully and defame other people but Topix is insulated from liability as a THIRD PARTY due to Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act. Topix claims it's free speech, and if you want it removed, you will have to sue, an action that is extremely expensive, time consuming, public and also costly to the tax payers. Topix is owned by Gannett (who owns USA Today), Tribune and McClatchy all reputable news companies but Topix generates much of its web traffic through its forums. Should Topix just leave it all up and let the taxpayers pay for all of these lawsuits, to the few Topix targets who can afford it or should Topix earn the trust of the community by enacting systems to delete material which harms those targeted by abuse?
